Book Review #25

Boring. That's the one word I can use to describe this medical memoir. I thought it would be full of exciting stories. Nope. Instead, it was full of research junk. Not something that someone outside of the medical world would find exciting. I made my way through it though, and I'm pretty sure I chucked it across the room in joy when I finished it!

This book was so worthless, Blogger wouldn't even turn it the correct direction. It shows the right way in iPhoto, but shows up this way when I upload it. And well, let's be serious, I have no idea how to fix it, so forever it will stay sideways. The end.

Book Review #24

I picked this book up when Border's was going out of business (slight tear running down my face), and I LOVED it! I can't believe I hadn't read it before now. The story line was great, the character development was fabulous. Great, great book!

Book Review #23

If you haven't noticed, I love me a memoir. I would say the majority of the books I read are memoirs, although I try to switch it up every now and then and add a totally worthwhile trashy novel into the mix. This book had caught my eye a few times and the title just made me laugh. While I'm not getting divorced (in the near future, anyway), I have many friends who would totally understand this book. Her stories reminded me of every bad ex and exactly why I'm thankful they're exes and that I never married them. The story was a bit sad, but she clearly tried using humor as a way to move past her failed marriage. Easy read and somewhat entertaining.

Chicago Air and Water Show

I haven't yet been to the Air and Water Show, but this year, I learned I didn't need to! The only reason I would go is to watch the Blue Angels, but Larry discovered during a practice run while I was out of town, that they use a big building that's two blocks from us for their meetup/turnaround point (definitely not the technical term, but I don't remember how he referred to it). I was able to watch a practice run and see both days of the show! I planted my ass on my desk that's at the kitchen window, opened the window, stuck my feet in the windowsill, and shrieked and screamed with excitement like a 5 year old boy! These pictures definitely don't show just how close they were, but they were right over the condo, and spent a lot of time just about 1/4 mile directly out from our building. I loved every minute of it!

Book Review #22

This was by far my most favorite David Sedaris book I have read. The stories in this one, for some reason were much funnier to me than his other books. There was one particular story when he was living in France and dealt with insomnia when his partner was out of town. I died laughing when I read it! If you haven't yet read one of his books and are curious, this is the one I would suggest!

Book Review #21

Yes!!!! I did it! I finally finished this series. I may or may not have done a happy dance in all of the 20 square feet that is not taken up my junk in my dollhouse of a condo. This fourth book was yet stranger than the first three, which I didn't believe would be possible. Your pregnant with a half human, half vampire who is ripping its way through your stomach?! What?! Oh wait, and then she grows at an insanely fast rate, like she's two weeks old and talks in full sentences. Hmmm. Like I said before, I don't think I will ever understand the hype over this series, and I quickly took my books to Half Price Books to sell back, although I'm not sure they paid me anything for them. Either way, I was happy to give them away and get them off my bookshelf.

Book Review #20

Was this the book that introduced us to The Volutri and sent us on the weird, totally unrealistic trip to Italy where the Volturi were killing and drinking the blood of tourists who thought they were going on a castle tour? I might have gotten this book confused with the 2nd, but either way, weird. That's all I have to say. This book bored me to near death, and it was all I could do to finish it. I struggled like crazy. I finished it and could not wait to finish the last book in the series. Stephanie Meyer, I only wish I was as brilliant as you and could come up with a totally random, weird ass story and become a multi-millionaire, or is it billionaire?

Book Review #19

I couldn't just read Twilight...I insisted I read the whole series. Did I mention I'm really glad I bought these at a library book sale for $1 each? I would have been pissed if I would have spent the suggested $14.95, or however much a book really costs these days. I understand these were written for young adults, but really, people turning into wolves, and vampires living among us and drinking the blood of wild animals? What the hell?! While I admit I was into this book a bit more than the first one, I must have told Larry 35 times how I just didn't get the hype with this series.

Book Review #18

I did it. I finally jumped on the Twilight bandwagon, about 4 years late. I see why I waited so long. I had the hardest time getting into this book, and I definitely didn't finish it in one night like everyone swore I would. Did I enjoy it a little bit? Sure. Did I become a Twi-hard or whatever the hell those people call themselves? No. Not even close. I did it though, I read it.

Book Review #17

David Sedaris' books are just what I need when I want an easy read with dry humor. He always cracks me up. While this wasn't my favorite book of his, it still had me laughing. Have we noticed how these book reviews are turning into one sentence? I'm bored with myself at this point.

The Big 3-0

It's official, I'm 30. I have totally mixed feelings about it. I'm excited for the next ten years and what they may hold, but I feel super behind in "life". I had plans for this big 30 bash, and it totally didn't happen. I felt like a giant loser, but I did spend my 30th with my very best friend, my amazing husband. We took off for a few days in Arizona. We spent two nights with my aunt and uncle in their new home, took a day trip to the Grand Canyon, spent a night at The Boulders (can't say enough good things about this hotel!), and one worthless night at The Biltmore (don't waste your money!). I got majorly sunburned, hardly made it on the flight home, but we had a great time.

The Grand Canyon, and grand it was. Pictures just don't do it justice

At The Boulders

Book Review #16

Okay, so I may or may not have posted for oh, 3 months! I am WAY behind! Life has been incredibly busy with work travel and I finally have a couple of weeks with no work related travel, so I thought I should catch up. Here it goes...

Book number 16 was Complications, a medical memoir. I love the medical field and weird medical stories have always interested me. This book was a little slow, but interesting overall.
